McDonald's Donation to Gay Rights Angers Anti Gay Marriage Folks

mcdonaldsgayrights.jpgIs this a redeeming quality of McDonald's? While they may be banned from opening new stores in South LA, there is also a right-wing group boycotting the fast food franchise. The same group is working on getting troops to vote to ban gay marriage on the November ballot as well. McDonald's donated $20,000 to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) and the The American Family Association (AFA) has chosen to make a big deal about it. The donation gained the company membership with the NGLCC and a seat on the groups board of directors.

Uh, don't you mean it angers PRO Prop 8 folks?

That's VERY cool McDonald's!!!
"The same group is working on getting troops to vote to ban gay marriage on the November ballot as well."

The troops, what the hell do the troops know about being gay!
Don't ask, don't tell,I say START SCREAMING!

I think I will buy someone a HAPPY MEAL today to support McDonald's.

I don't do McD's, since the food usually makes me physically ill, but I might just go and buy me some jumbo fries at lunch.

Wow!

Micky D's does something socially redeeming.

I usually try to avoid Mac Donalds, but I might just go get me a Big Mac for lunch!

Just because McDonald's does something socially redeeming doesn't change the fact that their food is sickening. I'll continue not eating there as usual. If you want to support the cause, a direct donation is going to be more effective then some convoluted trickle down effect through a big mac.

I just don't like seeing a bunch of right wing religious fanatics put the financial hurt on businesses by way of a boycott. Growing up in Texas this was a very common tactic used by religious intolerants to get their way. I don't mind poisoning myself to the extent of one big mac to take some power away from their boycott.

Oh yeah, like there are even enough right-wing boycotters to even make a dent in the megaloconglomerate that is McDonalds. Mayor McCheese LAUGHS at your feebles efforts, right-wingers, HA! HA! HA!

I imagine the conviction of boycotters going something like this:

Parent: I will never eat at McDonald's again, they are funding the gayification of America.

Child: But there is a special Barbie/Hot wheels I really really want in the Happy Meal this week!! Whaaaaa!!

Boycott over.

1 word:

99cent dbl cheeseburger. YUM-ERS. Add-ict.

But how does the overweight & obese community feel about it? They're the people McD's make money off of. How else are they going to maintain gaining 10 lbs a day if they're not able to get 2 big macs, a extra large Diet Coke(because they're dieting), 2 large friends, an apple pie, and a large McFlurry?

I'm guessing they could care less.

Besides people should realize McDonald's $20K donation to anything is equivalent to about a quarter (as in 25 cents) to them. It's like giving the salvation army guy at Frye's in Burbank a quarter to stop harassing you.

angers PRO Prop 8 folks?

Wagonmonster, are you suggesting that the people in favor of Prop 8 aren't against gay marriage?

McDonald's stock has actually gone up since the boycott started. Surprise, surprise. :)
