FILM : The Zócolo Public Square Lecture Series is holding a special screening of the upcoming film Elegy, starring Penelope Cruz and Ben Kingsley. Based on The Dying Animal by Philip Roth, the movie is a “meditation on the power of beauty to bind, to reveal and to transform.” A college professor becomes enamored with and destabilized by the beauty of a young woman. The 7:30 pm screening at the Harmony Gold Theatre free, but reservations are recommended.

VEGA$ MOVIES: The ArcLight celebrates its members and Vegas all month long by screening movies old and new, and offering specialty cocktails that can be brought into the theatres and $1 off popcorn. Tonight, Paul Thomas Anderson's Hard 8 (aka Sydney) screens at 8 pm at the ArcLight Hollywood. This is a members only, 21+ screening, but sign up for membership here and you’re in like Flynn.

DRUID FILM: The Druid Underground Short Film Festival is at the Echo Park Film Center tonight. "A common characteristic of Druidic societies is that certain elements of their worship are unknown to those outside the circle. Having the opportunity to curate a weekly show at the now defunct art and performance venue "Il Corral" in Hollywood, William Burgess established the Druid Underground in 2006 as a forum to present works, which would act as a sort of spiritual combat against the hollow mass of tedious video art." The screening begins at 8 pm, and Burgess will be in attendance.

FILM+MUSIC*: The folks at Dublab are at it again, presenting new ways of hearing/seeing/experiencing sight and sound. VisionVersion is their latest film project, capturing artists performing live around Los Angeles. Captured on film so far include: Baby Dee (Drag City), Rain Machine aka Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio) and Stevie Jackson (Belle & Sebastian). Plus, there’s a performance tonight by Hecuba after the screening, which will be turned into another VisionVersion film. The screening starts at 8 pm, and tickets are $9-$13 at the Silent Movie Theatre.

PARTY: We love Caroline on Crack! Tonight marks her third blogiversary and wants to celebrate the occasion with her readers at West Hollywood’s Bar Lubitsch from 8-10 pm. She’s buying a round of specialty cocktails, cupcakes from Leyna’s Cupcakes and will be giving away fab door prizes. RSVP to attend (but that still might not guarantee entrance), because Caroline’s that popular.
