LAist Goes Shopping: Truetone Music

Where is the best place in LA to buy a guitar? Truetone Music in Santa Monica. New and used guitars sit beside pedals, amps, strings, picks and more. It's a guitar lovers paradise and home of the best repair shop too.

Many guitar legends are fans of Truetone. When Dave Alvin, Beck, Peter Case, Joe Henry, Aimee Mann, Ry Cooder, Walter Becker, or Loudon Wainwright III need a guitar, you're sure to find them there. Owners Ken Daniels and Paul Flynn opened Truetone in 1996 to sell everything from Gibson, Gretsch, Fender and Rickenbacker to exclusive specialty lines Jerry Jones, Parker, Phantom, and Veillette. Buy a guitar at Truetone and they will fix, adjust or tweak the instrument to meet the needs of any musician. (Continued after photo gallery)

Thursday the store will host “Gretsch Night Out". It's your chance to meet Gretsch Company President Fred W. Gretsch, check out new, limited-edition Gretsch 125th anniversary guitars and enjoy a performance by world-renowned fingerstyle guitar player Bobby Gibson. This free event is open to guitarists, musicians and music lovers of all ages and will feature personal insights on the colorful history of Gretsch Drums from the man himself, Fred W. Gretsch. He will be available for photographs, a question and answer session and will autograph your Gretsch instrument. Everyone who attends will receive a free Gretsch gift.
