What's Up X Games?

X Games 14 are in full effect at the Staples Center and Home Depot Center. It’s the time of year when Orange County crap punk bands and their spinoffs see royalties to the xtreme. And it’s the time when I try to understand what’s going on but just score an epic fail with all the jargon and loopdy-doos.

But it’s the effort that counts I suppose. Let’s see if this year’s game will make a convert out of me.

With two days of competition over, here are the results:

  • BMX Freestyle Street Finals: Garrett Reynolds.

  • Skateboard Big Air Finals: Bob Burnquist.

But the story of this event had to be runner-up Danny Way. After a slam that almost echoed last year’s scene with Aussie Jake Brown (who ended up placing third this year), Way got up and did his next run to perfection. It turns out that slam left Way with a broken foot. I might not get the fascination with these sports, but that is definitely gutsy. I wonder if Nomar Garciaparra would be able to pull something like that off. I think not.

  • Moto X Best Trick Finals: Kyle Loza.

  • Women’s Street Skate Finals: Elissa Streamer.

  • Men’s Street Skate Finals: “Life of Ryan” Sheckler.

  • BMX Big Air Finals: Chad Kagy.

  • Moto X Step Up Finals: Ricky Carmichael.

  • I will see if I can get myself educated as I head down to the Home Depot Center to catch some of the action. But if I hear any Bad Religion, NOFX or Offspring, I might have to get very belligerent.
