Get Out: Saturday

CHOMP ON SOME CRAWFISH
Head down to the Rainbow Lagoon for Long Beach's 15th Annual Crawfish Festival. From Noon til midnight tonight (and Noon til 11 p.m. tomorrow, too) you can rock out to Cajun, Zydeco, and New Orleans music and chow down on some authentic Louisiana-style crawfish.

TongaHutDecor.jpgTIME TO TIKI
Check out the Tonga Hut Art Show, featuring the work of Tom Thordarson, Micko, Tiki Tony, Ocea Otica, Jeremy Melton, and Skinny Dog Designs and celebrate the release of Tiki Magazine. The Tonga Hut is a Tiki Lounge that's been rocking in North Hollywood for almost 50 years!

LEARN ABOUT THE LYDECKERS
Two brothers in the 1930s worked together on some amazing special effects, and in turn influenced brother Howard's design of his home, which is now a historical monument. Learn about the brothers, their artistry, and the Lydecker home from experts and family members in this event that takes place this afternoon as a partnership between the American Cinematheque and the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles.

EAT FRO-YO, MEET ACTRESS, FUNDRAISE
From 1 to 3 this afternoon you can meet actress Kristen Bell and get yourself some frozen yogurt with the proceeds going to benefit Invisible Children. It's at the Red Mango in Westwood Village.

Other Things to Do: See the last performances of the NOW Festival at the REDCAT, take part in the Underwear Affair, avoid the Hollywood Sobriety Checkpoint (if you've been drinking...take the Red Line or hail a cab!), eat at the new Loteria Grill location in Hollywood, see the new artwork up at Giant Robot, or browse the shelves at the newly expanded Skylight Books.

Also, for the record, it's the very last night of CIRQUE BERZERK's show, 'BENEATH,' at the L.A. State Historic Park. Gate at 8, show at 8:30. And we need THREE more volunteers to make the evening perfect, so come early (5:30) if you want to help out. (Show ends at 10:30; shifts run until 11 PM.)

If I may add my own little get out Saturday memo.

NO WAR ON IRAN rally, noon at Pershing Square, downtown L.A. 6th Street between Oilve and Hill.

SEE YOU THERE!!!

Eh, I went to the Crawfish Festival today and I'd have to say it's kind of a rip off. They claim you'll get 2 1/2 to 3lbs of crawfish. So 4 of us went and we decided to only get 3 crawfish meals and 1 regular entrance- as 2 lbs of crawfish is sufficient for 1 person (or 3 for me, crawfish lover). I was the first in line and they measured the scoop...at 1 lb. ONE FRIGGING POUND. That's barely enough for one person. $25 for 1 lb, not worth it. My wife and I didn't say anything because we didn't want to let our friends realize they just got robbed, but both of us were looking at each other with the WTF look. At least they enjoyed it, but we were all hungry.

There's a really really really excellent out of place Cajun Crawfish at $6.99 a pound in a little vietnamese restaurant in Little Saigon. I stumbled onto it and I get 3lbs each time I'm in the area. It's on Beach Blvd and Manhattan, on the corner. No idea what it's called as it's in vietnamese but they did have (not sure if it's still up, didn't notice it after a while) that says "Cajun Crawfish $5.99 but it's really 6.99. Or $6 if you go there enough :)
