Pineapple juice with kitchen in the background, taken from the best seat in the house--at the bar that overlooks the kitchen. (Tom Andrews/LAist)
Always a fan of the Loteria Grill at the Farmer's Market at Fairfax and 3rd, their newest location is even better (located between Highland and Cahuenga on Hollywood Blvd.). The seating, the atmosphere and location mixed with it's late weekend hours. Yes, the kitchen stays open until 3 a.m. on the weekends.
The best seat in the house for a quick bite to eat is at the bar that overlooks the kitchen where the action's at. Order your food and talk to the cooks while they make it for you.
And since this writer leans to the vegetarian side, Loteria is especially friendly with their friendly veggie fillings. Either in a taco ($4), sope ($4.50), burrito ($8) or tostada ($7), take your pick or order a few filled with fresh cactus salad, zucchini and roasted corn succotash, muschrooms and epazote or potatos with roasted poblano peppers.
There are also plenty of meat options such as chicken with mole, chicken with spicy-pumpkin seed and peanut sauce, meatballs in a tomato chipotle sauce and banana leaf roasted pork. Don't forget to top it off with some pineapple juice.

Just be careful with the vegetarian options as I learned the hard way last weekend that the beans are not vegetarian :(
