Skylight Books Grows, Everything Else Shrinks

Skylight Books is Expanding!

First Dutton's closed, then Beyond Baroque was in trouble, but then wasn't, but might be again soon. It was only last December when Village Books was having a "we might have to go out of business sale" that was sucessful enough they didn't have to close. For a town that is closing its beloved bookstores and hacking its own Book Review section to pieces, we were delighted to learn that Skylight Books is...that's right...expanding!

Skylight Books is that rare breed of bookstores - just the right inventory, passionate staff that knows their stuff, and carefully curated author events you won't find at any other bookstores in town. They are ideally located on Vermont Ave in Los Feliz next to a host of excellent restaurants, shops and clubs. Whenever we go for a reading or to pick up a book, we linger in the store and the surrounding neighborhood for hours.

It is no surprise, then, that all the bookish goodness needed room to breathe. The main store will be closing tonight at 7pm to allow staff and volunteers to begin moving inventory into the new space just next door to their current one. The newly expanded shop, Skylight Books 1814, will re-open for business tomorrow at noon. Just think of all those empty bookshelves waiting for great books to fill them! Great news for bookish LA!

I love Skylight. And they have bike racks, which makes the store even more appealing :-)

Hearing a book is different than reading a book. It's also enjoying it with your whole community around you. New author name’s Vahid Razavi introduce a new book The Age Of Nepotism at Los Angeles Times festival of books. If you were around, you should come to us, our booth number in UCLA is 683 Zone F. You may read the funny parts and see many interesting things. See you!

About the book:
Traveling to Iran may seem to you as a bad idea, considering all the messages brought to us by the media and the political leaders, but the reality is that most of the world does not have the insight to what this country is really about. If you want to learn about the people in Iran and their rich culture, the changes that took place in Iranian history and lead to one global propaganda promoting only the negatives, you should read The Age of Nepotism by Vahid Razavi and try and see things from one liberating and positive angle. If we agree that truth is somewhere in the middle, then we should at least give ourselves a chance of not being biased and learn about what we fear, since fear itself is mostly caused by ignorance...You can also visit the site
