Actually, I heard that the Army Corps agrees that you can float a boat down the whole river (that it's "navigable" or "navigable-in-fact"), but that the whole river doesn't fit their criteria for a "traditional navigable water." Plus, I heard that the group that just did the trip was granted a film permit by the Corps on the day the expedition began (because they wanted to do some filming near the river). But the Corps still says you're not supposed to put a boat in the water. That's where it gets murky for me. At least that's my understanding. Anyone know anything else about this?

Hope they make it unimpeded. I have to ask though; what's it smell like down there?

Awesome. My hat goes off to them. One of the sadist points in LA history was the decision to pave the LA river and make it into a glorified drainage ditch, back in the '30's. If they call attention to the fact that there was a true river here once, they've more than supported their stunt, as it were.

Kudos guys.

So let me get this straight: the cops busted them last time, and this time they're announcing their plans on the internets?

I wonder if they'll even make it out of the parking lot...

It's July...certainly in some sections they're gonna have to pick up and walk their kayaks through.
