"This is overall a victory," Boi from Troy wrote about yesterday's language change in the text of Proposition 8, a November ballot initiative that seeks to keep marriage between a man and a woman only. The original description said this:

[Prop 8] Amends the California Constitution to provide that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

The new language is more straightforward:

[Prop 8] Changes California Constitution to eliminate right of same-sex couples to marry. Provides that only a marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. Fiscal Impact: Over the next few years, potential revenue loss, mainly sales taxes, totaling in the several tens of millions of dollars, to state and local governments. In the long run, likely little fiscal impact to state and local governments.

"Since most voters don’t get beyond what is on their sample ballot, this language is critical," noted Boi from Troy.

Sounds like the anti-marriage crowd are running a little scared. It's amusing that several 10s of millions of dollars are of little impact. California must be in much worse shape than I thought. LOL
