If you were going to Comic-Con or just heading towards San Diego, today's truck crash/fire was not helpful (should have taken the train, the Surfliner to San Diego is a beautiful and chill ride). This morning, "a Vons big rig crashed into a disabled vehicle on southbound Interstate 5 near Pulgas Road, flipped over and burst into flames... leaving all but one lane of southbound I-5 blocked for hours," according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Apparently, Vons was "en route" to "recover their product." Okay, then. Look out for any pre-charred ribs the next time you're at Vons.

how come nothing useful to society ever blows up in these truck explosions.... like the trucks they use to raid the weed warehouses. Now there's an air contaminant that could make for an interesting morning.
If the Surfliner is frequented by the likes of you, count me OUT. Your efforts to get the masses to use public transportation are commendable but, unfortunately, more often than not they edge on smug, judgmental, and straight-up annoying. I, for one, am put off by this "I told you so" attitude whenever I read anything having to do with public transportation in LAist.
I took the surfliner on wednesday and lost 3 hours because of a metrolink accident
I kind of have to agree with wrngtrk on the "I told you so" bit...except that in this case, recommending the train is a useful tip. And also the Amtrak is fun, freeway closures or not.
My sister tried taking the Surfliner from Solana Beach (near UCSD) to Santa Ana last Friday and had to wait over three hours for the train.
i find nothing wrong with the Surfliner. i like the fact that you can read/sleep during the whole ride...although i know some people who do that in a car anyways.
