Colorado Rockies defeat LA Dodgers 5-3. Dodger's starter Hiroki Kuroda came out shaky in the first three innings but eventually pulled it together in his last three innings. Unfortunately the aftermath of the first three innings was giving up five runs to the Rockies who seemed to luxuriate in hitting the Dodgers. Apart from the eight-run first inning of the first game, the Dodgers were completely outplayed in this series. The positive note: Andruw Jones got an RBI double. The Dodgers will take a day off to think about what they have done, or more appropriately what they haven't done.

LA Angels defeat Cleveland Indians 14-11. Meanwhile Angel Stadium played more like Coors Field. Catcher Jeff Mathis continued his hot streak while setting career highs of four hits and six RBIs and hit his first grand slam of his career. As horrible as Indian's starter Aaron Laffey was (four innings, eight earned-runs on 12 hits and two walks), Angel's start John Lackey was uncharacteristically Lack-ing giving up six runs in five innings. A win is a win, and it's nice seeing the Angels' bats starting to come alive. The Angels are now 10 games ahead of the Oakland A's and still have the best record in all of baseball.

• With the NFL season around the corner, here's a bit of news from the Chicago Bear's training camp. From the Chicago Tribune Bear's blog "Huddle Up":

  Also, Rex Grossman has won the starting quarterback job -- for the first day of practice. There was a coin toss at a Wednesday morning quarterback meeting. Kyle Orton called it, but Grossman won it and will run with the first-team offense Wednesday.

  What the fuck is that? Now granted later in the entry they made it clear that a coin toss wouldn't determine the opening day quarterback, but knowing the history of Chicago and their quarterbacks one can never say for sure.
• In other Bears news, their kick returner and part-time wide receiver Devin Hester is holding out of training camp. After watching the brilliance of Hester last season as a wide receiver when he would routinely forget where to line up forcing a time out to be called, might I suggest he gets his mental-reject self to camp. Maybe then he could learn formations maybe? The snap count? It's the Bear's offense for heaven's sake. It's not like it's a Mensa meeting.
• Former USC Heisman-winning quarterback and current Cincinnati Bengal starting QB Carson Palmer went on the Petros and Money Show on AM 570 KLAC last week and started some shit (Listen or Download). The normally boring Palmer said, "I cannot stand the Buckeyes, and having to live in Ohio and hear those people talk about their team, it drives me absolutely nuts." While he's backtracking on his statements now, he's absolutely right. The fraud that is the Buckeyes protect their gem of a team by scheduling weak out-of-conference games most years. And seeing as how the Big Ten has been a complete joke in college football, it doesn't make their case any stronger. It'll be funny to see the Ohio State-USC showdown in September. Cue the clown music!
