From an aesthetic point of view, that pizza does not look very good. By the way, calling something "NY pizza" means nothing. Everyone seems to do it even though they know it doesn't resemble anything like a new york pizza. It's pretty much like every other generic french cafe that doesn't actually serve french food.

Yes l_alex, the Shittier(sorry, old joke) Joe Peep's was related, but there was a divorce or falling out of some variety so that one now has different owners. I tyink Joe Peep's is good, it's Damiano's Mr Pizza on Fairfax that's overhyped

"The only pizza that comes close to NY is Mulberry Street. " but mulberry street is gross. joe's has a fantastic ny slice and he's in the kitchen often. and vitos' isn't too bad, but order something custom so they make it on the spot.

Best pizza in the Valley is Santino's in Sherman Oaks on Woodman near Ventura. Family owned and operated, thin crust, great and friendly. All the food is fantastic and their homemade brownies and cookies are a steal at under a buck apiece.

it's embarrassing that for a pizza place to gain ground out here it has to claim it is just like another city. discovered rocco's on wilshire (mid-wilshire area) over the weekend and give it a big 27 thumbs up

I have yet to try them though I have heard good things. I forgot to mention Larchmont! If I'm over that way I will get one - they must have opened the new one on Cahuenga (at Yucca, I think) by now. I just started making my own last week.

The Mr and I, both NYers, live near Joe Peeps so of course we've tested it. HeartasDryasDust is right - NY pizza crust is very thin and nothing like Joe Peep's. The only pizza that comes close to NY is Mulberry Street. I like the pizza from Vito's on La Cienega, but what sucks is they only make one size (gigantic) and the slices are no good cause they sit out all day. Reheating them doesn't really help. The fresh pizza is great, pretty close to NY style.

i am so suprised by the great reviews. this place is average at best. Heavy dough and tons of cheese. If you like your medium pizzas to weigh 10 lbs. than this place is for you.

the graffiti reminds me of the old Vitos Pizza on Vermont now relocated to La Cienega.
