San Diego Mayor Opposes Gay Marriage Ban
Republican Jerry Sanders, the Mayor of San Diego, was dead set on opposing gay marriage when the City Council voted to support it. Expected to veto the decision, he had an about-face and called a tearful press conference. He announced his daughter and fellow city staffers were gay and that he couldn't bring himself "to tell an entire group of people in our community that they were less important . . . less deserving of the rights and responsibilities . . . simply because of their sexual orientation," according to the LA Times. Proposition 8, which proposes an amendment change that would make same-sex marriage illegal, is on November's ballot. Proponents of it said the Mayor's change of heart inadvertently lit the fire under their asses to get the prop on the ballot.

wait, a San Diego County politician who is not an immigrant-bashing homophobe?
Oh, wait -- he is a gay-bashing immigrant hater who is shamed to tears that half the people he knows (incl. his daughter) are either a)gay and/or b)naturalized or undocumented immigrants.
Jerry Sanders, you are a F-R-A-U-D. Keep cryin'.

I thought it was kind of touching.
Better than Alan Keyes, another Republican, who disowned his lesbian daughter when she came out to him.
Funny though. With right wingers it seems like it takes an experience that is personal to them to have an attack of empathy.
Yes Jerry, your daughter, like many of our fellow human beings, is not heterosexual. She may never give you grandchildren.
Thank you for still loving her.
You're acting like a grown up man, and a good father.

Sanders is taking a lot of heat down here for this. I think he deserves some credit for taking a stand instead of caving in to the rest of the ass-backwards GOP lunatics in San Diego.
Read the Union-Tribune sometime and you'll see what I mean. They still think John McCain is the solution to all our problems...ha!

Kudos to any politician, left or right, Dem or Republican, who puts family before electoral politics.
Vote your conscience and ignore the hate and lies spewing from the Yes on 8 campaign. They're desperate. Prop 8 is toast. Too many decent folks of all political and religious stripes in California to let this nonsense pass.
You wanna know who's running Yes on 8 ? Just google "schubert flint" ... otherwise, check out these links:
