Pencil This In: Friday

FILM: The American Cinematheque’s Old Pasadena Film Festival continues tonight with three free screenings tonight. At 7 pm is an Emerging Filmmakers program with shorts and films by students and faculty from the Armory Center for the Arts, Art Center College of Design and Pasadena City College. At 8:30 pm, the Cary Grant-Audrey Hepburn classic Charade screens outdoors at One Colorado Courtyard. And what better film to end the evening with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the roof of Schoolhouse Garage on Green Street at 10 pm. FRENCH FILM: The Aero celebrates the 1960s nouvelle vague with the films of Jean Luc Godard. All you film history buffs, listen up: On the big screen tonight is a double feature of Breathless (A Bout de Soufle) and A Woman is a Woman (Une Femme Est Une Femme). Crack open those textbooks and get ready to discuss the merits of the auteur theory.

FESTIVAL: The Bicycle Film Festival celebrates the two wheeler through film, art and music world premiere of the musical. Tonight there’s a program of shorts at begins at 7:30 pm and at 9:30 pm is The Six-Day Bicycle Races. All film screenings will be held at the Vine Theatre. $10 plus a $1.24 service fee.

SUMMER SCREENING: The Summer Screening Mixer series continues tonight at the Barker Block in the Arts District to preview films that will be screened at the Downtown Film Festival (from Aug. 13-17). Complimentary beverages (both spiked and un-spiked) will be served at 7:30 pm for a mixer, and the film tonight Your Name Here (rock musical/mockumentary begins at 8:30 pm. Bring a blanket and picnic for the lawn.

NETWORK: SummerMash Los Angeles takes place tonight at the Rubicon Project, with networking, food and drinks. BUT…there are only a few tickets left for $23 each.

BEER GARDEN*: So you want to kick off early and hang out in a beer garden? We totally do. Head down to the Beerfest on the third floor of the Kyoto Grand Hotel & Gardens to sample American, Japanese and German beers. Food and drinks at reasonable prices from 5-10 pm. Plus, there’s live entertainment tonight as well.
