Yesterday, the LA City Council voted for increases in fees for things relating to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (like the boot fee went up $30 to $150). What the majority of the city deals with are parking meters, which are going to a minimum rate of $1.00 an hour citywide (but remember, it's prorated, so a quarter is 15-minutes).
Some high usage parts of the city will have higher fees, costing up to $4.00 an hour. Currently, the Civic Center and Central Business District areas are $1.50/$2.00 per hour, but will be raised to $3.00/$4.00.
Other popular destinations that will be $2.00 an hour are Chinatown, Robertson/Alden, Little Tokyo, Brentwood/San Vicente; Brentwood Village, Venice Beach, Washington/Pacific, Hollywood/Vine, and Studio City.
The standard citywide 2-hour time limit will not be changed. "These are for turnover," explained Bruce Gillman at LADOT. "Long term parking is not for a parking meter."

That is some bullshit.
They better be ready to take credit cards, because I don't have a 10# sack of quarters in my car at all times.
When do these changes go into effect?
"The ordinances are to become effective in late August and citywide implementation will take about 90 days."

Seriously, echoing what Marshall said above, do they really expect us to lug around a sock full of change? I ain't got that many quarters! They best be having them credit card machines evvrrrywhere (snaps fingers in sassy manner)!
Hey Guys, I did a little research, here's the latest and greatest on where you can use credit cards:
