Until earlier this year I lived on Colton across the street from that school and park; I endured the entire construction process before moving away (it sucked).

An open field is an extremely safe place to be during an earthquake unless the quake releases the pockets of apparently very toxic gas trapped in the ground you're standing on. Finding out about that was a good reason to look for a new place to sleep at night.

The only thing I miss about my old brown house is the view of the downtown skyline from our balcony. It was a world-class show every evening.

The new park, however, does NOT live up to the SMMC's description above.

But isn't the Los Angeles Historic State Park (aka The Cornfields) a new Downtown park as well?

Earthquake fault, you say? Actually standing in the middle of an open field is the BEST place to be in the event of an earthquake!
