To be clear, it wouldn't ban the stores from selling alcohol exactly, it would ban them from selling alcohol at self-checkout stands. Store that have both self-checkout and traditional clerk checkout would be required to put up signs directing those wishing to buy alcohol to checkstands with clerks, and Fresh & Easy would have to have at least one checkstand that was manned by a clerk at all times.

This whole thing is silly. I get carded more often (read: every time) at fresh & easy than I do at Ralphs (read: most of the time). If kids want to get booze they will figure it out regardless.

Places like Ralph's won't let you buy alcohol from the self-checkout until you walk over to the clerk and show them your ID, so what is the problem?

Big government attempting to pass more laws to keep the the consumer down. Seriously, if it's not even a problem, why waste time?

My Albertsons in Valencia has self-checkout...but we're just special in the SCV.
