TALK*: Tim Sinclair from the Booker T. Washington National Monument in Hardy, Va., will discuss Washington’s story around a traditional campfire at Temescal Gateway Park at 7:30 pm. Born as a slave, Booker T. Washington became one of America's most prominent African American educators and orators of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

FILM: Baghead screens at 8 pm at the ArcLight Hollywood tonight. Now we wonder if anyone in LA can relate to this plot: Four struggling actors head up to Big Bear to write a screenplay to make them famous. But their horror script begins to come true: They’re being tormented by a killer with a paper bag over his head (aka Baghead). A Q&A with the writer/director/producer team, the Duplass brothers, immediate follows the screening.

GEEK DINNER: July’s Geek Dinner will be held at Mao’s on Melrose. For $20, diners get “awesome” Chinese food and beer and wine. Oh yeah—and the chance to mingle with some of the hippest geeks around. "Anyone who has an interest and passion for technology, the internet, internet technologies, software or you just know you’re a geek is welcome."

MORE TALK: The latest Zócalo asks, “Are L.A.’s Hospitals Safe?”
Moderated by Charles Ornstein, (soon to be ex-Los Angeles Times Health investigative reporter), a panel will discuss the quality of Los Angeles-area hospitals. Joining Ornstein are Dr. David Feinberg, chief executive of the UCLA Hospital System and Carole Moss, a proponent of public reporting of hospital infection rates whose 15-year-old son Nile died of a drug-resistant staph infection in 2006. The discussion begins at 7:30 pm at the Los Angeles Central Library’s Mark Taper Auditorium.

DODGEBALL: Sometimes getting hit with the dodgeball hurts. Really hurts. But for the wusses like us out there, there’s always the co-ed Stay Puft Marshmallow League, where the balls don’t sting. The dodgeball league comes to the Westside, beginning tomorrow evening from 7:30-9:30 pm at the Westwood Recreation Center. Come by yourself or with a team – and remember to dress to impress. Really, really high-riding gym shorts.
