LA Times Axes Buzz Band Writer

Sad news today for the local rock music reporting scene. Early last night, Kevin Bronson from the LA Times sent out an e-mail titled "Yeah, it's true." The body of the e-mail broke the news. "I'm history. My last day at the Times is Friday." He then linked to Kevin Roderick's post about the massive amounts of layoffs at the paper. Bronson was a huge asset to the Times and had a wonderful blog called Buzz Bands until it was folded into Soundboard. He wrote that the Airborne Toxic Event, The Deadly Syndrome, and Castledoor were three bands to watch in 2008. And he was right.

this is a total bummer, though i felt like the writing was on the wall when they closed his Buzz Bands blog earlier this year.

My first reaction is: this sucks. Kevin Bronson turned me on to so many local bands in my first couple years in LA.

Second reaction: He's one of the best in the business, surely his next opportunity will be more rewarding and hopefully it will be in LA.

Holy shit, what an absolute bummer. Whomever gets Kevin next is going to be so lucky!

That's too bad. I enjoyed his blog. I always see him at Spaceland and think to myself, "Boy, that's a cool old guy!"

To echo Andy's comment: Where Kevin goes, his readership will follow. Keep trucking, Kevin!
