Box Office Review: Hellboy Blows 'Em Away!
In a huge jump from the original Hellboy film, Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy 2: The Golden Army pulled in a big $35.8M to win the weekend box office race. Fellow superhero flick Hancock finished a close second with $33M ($165M) despite the fact that it's mostly derivative, crappy and overlong at only 92 minutes. Newcomer Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D finished a decent third with $20.5M followed by the super Wall-E ($18.5M/$162.7M) and the dreadful Wanted ($11.5M/$112M).
Get Smart led the bottom half of the top 10 ($7.1M/$111.4M), topping the weekend's last big newcomer Meet Dave which cratered to an abominable $5.3M debut. After that it was Kung Fu Panda ($4.3M/$202M), Kit Kittredge ($2.3M/$11M) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Whatever ($2.2M/$310.4M). The limited release crowd had a disappointing weekend all around: Garden Party ($1578 per theater), Harold ($3433), August ($6500), Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired ($5500) and Death Defying Acts ($1700).

Dude. A superhero Devil and a hyper-intellectual clairvoyant Mer-man drinking Tecate and crooning to a Barry Manilow CD is brilliance. One of the best scenes of the summer.
