A Record Month for Metro

Yesterday, all the buzz was about the Orange Line's record ridership last month. Today, Metro released the June 2008 numbers for all their rail lines, which had an increase in daily ridership, up 12.8 percent. Around 309,000 people rode the rails, most of them, 153,928, on the subway system. Steve Hymon at the LA Times broke down the numbers nicely:

Daily Ridership
Red Line subway: 153,928 this June, from 136,336 in June 2007.
Blue Line: 84,353 this June, from 77,485 in June 2007.
Green Line: 44,034 this June, from 39,860 in June 2007.
Gold Line: 26,338 this June, from 19,985 in June 2007.
Orange Line: 26,596 this June, from 25,475 in June 2007.
Bus lines: 1,298,979 this June, from 1,339,970 in June 2007.

But with all the public transit participation, Hymon reports that a could-be county measure that would raise the sales tax for transit funding may not happen due to timing of a state legislature vote and the timing of the November ballot going to the printer.
