The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of an isolated system not in equilibrium will tend to increase over time until the system reaches equilibrium. In layman’s terms, everything tends towards chaos.

As always, the laws of physics are immutable especially with respect to the Los Angeles Clippers.

In the 24 years the Clippers have been in Los Angeles, they have been the laughing stock of not only Los Angeles but of the entire NBA. They made a stab at respectability and order this decade peaking with being one game away from reaching the Western Conference Finals.

Now with their incompetence in handling Elton Brand, they have shown they are heading back towards equilibrium.

Elton Brand went on the Loose Cannons show on AM 570 KLAC this afternoon to tell his side of the story.

“It’s not about the money,” he emphatically stated. “It was about the love and respect.”

They gave us an ultimatum. They said hey this is it. The owner can’t be reached, this is all we have, this is all we’re doing. It wasn’t even a monetary thing... It was something small that I asked for, and they said no we can’t do it. Because they felt like I guess my hand was forced. 20 minutes later we had two other deals that of course I had to explore.

That “something small” Brand asked for was presumably a no-trade clause.

One thing is certain: it wasn’t about the money. If it had been, Brand would have joined Corey Magette in Oakland with the Golden State Warriors. Rather than taking the $90 million the Warriors offered, Brand left more than $8 million on the table to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Mark Heisler in his piece in the LA Times Wednesday morning ventured that Brand’s agent David Falk was to blame for Brand’s departure. Falk used Brand as a pawn to get revenge on the Clippers who did not pick his client Mike Bibby with the number one pick of the 1998 draft.

While Falk is hardly the saint, it’s still hard to conceive that someone of Brand’s stature would let himself be used as a toy soldier in a little boy’s pissing game.

It must be said that the Clippers have not returned any calls, and they don’t look to make any comments of this situation until Baron Davis’ press conference in the next day or two.

It will be interesting to see how the Clippers counter this, but as stated before it’s hard to overlook past history especially with respect to their blunders.
