Art Openings: Tonight’s Art Walk, Notorious Figures, Hi-Fructose

Warren_Keating_Getty_Woman_.jpgThursday

Enjoy another perfect evening in the heart of LA; and take in the gallery scene at tonight’s Downtown Art Walk. A few of the evenings highlights include the opening of Warren Keating’s Overviews at M.J Higgins. These “digital impressionistic” paintings examine unsuspecting subjects from the tops of bridges, buildings, roofs, etc. Also don’t miss the festivities at the Crewest Gallery. This cool graffiti art gallery always goes all out with demos, and fun activities for this monthly event. Get your map here!

Saturday

The ultra-hip neighborhood spot Cactus Gallery is throwing a party for a huge group show entitled Icons, Legends, and Notorious Figures. The exhibit is described as “depicting the characters, infamous people, and urban legends that symbolize freedom, success, fame and lawlessness.” If you’ve never been to Cactus before it really is a joy-a very eclectic place with all kinds of mixed media art, jewelry & tons more. They even accept LAYAWAY—which is an awesome way to acquire some cool stuff & support local artisans!

How was the Downtown Art Walk last night?

I got busy, missed it again.

It was a lot of fun. I just wish it went later. If you stop your workday at 6pm and then gather people together for some dinner, art walk for you can easily start at 8pm. I guess I just want to see everything.

Oh, and I saw Germaine from Flight of the Conchords perusing the art at Bert Green's Gallery.
