Fanny Pak strikes a pose before the Tuesday night taping of America's Best Dance Crew.
Turn on the TV and you're bound to see someone dancing. Turn on MTV and you'll see amazing dancing. From the high-concept routines to the insane tricks, the dancers on America's Best Dance Crew aim to whip the audience into a frenzy. MTV auditions crews from all over the country. The 'sickest' ones battle it out on the show every week, until a winner is crowned victorious.
Season 1 was dominated by JabbaWockeeZ from Sacramento and Kaba Modern from Irvine. This season Fanny Pak from LA and Super Cr3w from Riverside and Las Vegas represent the West Coast.
LAist went to the taping of ABDC to meet the so-cal dancers and cheer on our hometown favorites. In the green room, we met choreographer and judge Shane Sparks. We also hung out with Alex Cotraviwat, designer of the wearable-art clothing line, Kallusive, who created the t-shirts worn by the crew, A.S.I.I.D.
Before the show started, we headed to the set where we met the members of the super high-energy and zany crew, Fanny Pak. Matt Cady, Phill Collins, Beau Fournier, Tiffani Grant, Cara Horibe, Megan Lawson, and Glenda Morales were dressed for the 'prom' complete with 80's style poofy dresses and light blue tuxedo jackets. Tonight you can see how their over-the-top costumes fit into this week's challenge. Amid the chaos of dancers warming up for the show, Fanny Pak took some time out to pose for photos and answer a few questions.
LAist How long have you been dancing together?
Glenda of Fanny Pak: Two years.
LAist: How did you form the group?
Glenda: Mostly through Matt Cady's class. Matt is on our group and he is our main choreographer.
LAist: Where do you dance?
Glenda: He teaches over at Debbie Reynolds Studio.
LAist:What has the experience been like being on the show? How do you sum it up?
Megan: It has been incredible. Meeting all of these other crews. Dancing every week. This show is our life right now. Each week coming up with a new routine a new challenge. It's great. We have gotten so close. It is an amazing experience that hopefully will not end soon.
LAist: What's next?
Fanny Pak: Keep dancing!!
Backstage we also met the b-boys from Super Cr3w.The guys were dressed and painted from head to toe in metallic gold, except for Jon.
LAist: Jon, how long have you been dancing?
Jon: I have been dancing for 12 years.
LAist: How did the members of your group from Riverside form a group with the members from Las Vegas and Texas?
Jon: Vex, RJ, and I have a crew called Battle Monkeys. Basically when we were coming up in the game in like 2000, we met these cats from Vegas, Full Force and Knuckleheads. They came down to Los Angeles to battle. We thought they were really really nasty. Great minds think alike. We were all similar. Similar height, similar everything. Once we met these guys, we decided to get together to form group so we could take on the greater crews. That's what we did. Eight years going strong. Together we are Super Cr3w.
Check out America's Best Dance Crew on MTV tonight at 10pm ET/PT to see the outrageous performances and who is still in the game. Our lips are sealed.

high school musical for the uncool
That whole 'gang sign' that that one crew always throws up after a routine is about the corniest thing ive seen in 20 years. The best part of the show is when Mario Lopez throws it up.
