Dry Lightning Storms Could Hit Sierra Nevadas

As weather in Los Angeles is still normal, Central and Northern California could be in for another round of dry lightning storms. There are two areas of thunderstorms across the West over the next day or two that have potential to create new wildfires over California.
"The combination of hot air and relatively high dew point temperatures will allow a few thunderstorms to erupt over the Sierra Nevada of California this afternoon," reports AccuWeather. "Unlike the Southwest thunderstorms, which will bring locally heavy rains, there is simply not enough moisture over California to bring much rainfall. The primary impact of any storms will be lightning that can create new wildfires."
Today, a 40 homes and 10 other structures were destroyed by an out-of-control fire in Butte County. The fire, that began yesterday when wind pushed embers from a containment fire over the line, currently threatens 3,800 homes.
