Restaurant Openings Around Town

loteriaporktaco.jpg One of the most exciting new spots to hit Hollywood this month is actually not new at all -- Loteria Grill. Chef Jimmy Shaw's Farmer's Market staple, home to some of the best tacos in the city, has expanded out to a new Hollywood location near the Highland complex. And this time around, they're serving alcohol! Until very late at night! (They're open til midnight during the week, and until 3am on the weekends.)

But if tacos and burritos aren't your deal, there are a couple other new eateries and bars to check out soon. Rush Street, a Chicago-inspired bar and restaurant that will be opening to the public this weekend. Rush Street is located smack dab in Culver City's booming Restaurant Row, and will boast a rooftop lounge, bar food, and tasty cocktails. EaterLA has the scoop.

Valley rats will be very happy to hear about The Fifth, a classy hidden spot on Whitsett in Studio City, courtesy of the same group that is responsible for The Woods in Hollywood and NoBar in North Hollywood.

And finally, Eating LA turned us on to newcomer Garage Pizza in Silver Lake, where menu items like the "Tree Hugger" (a vegan pie) and "Annihilator" (a meaty explosion) promise to appeal to veg-heads and carnivores alike. Happy eating, L.A.!!!

I went to the new Loteria Grill this weekend and I wasn't impressed by their mole burrito.
Mole is one of my favorite Mexican dishes and this mole had no flavor.
I'm going to stick to eating my mole at La Serenata de Garibaldi at 1842 East First Street.

I went to the one at the Farmer's Market.

$11 and change for a breakfast burrito and coffee?

You can keep it.

Chorizo and eggs don't cost that much, and they're actually hard to screw up. The graphics on the stand are interesting, but not $11 worth.

note to self...mole at La Seranata de Garibaldi...weekend eats taken care of...

When i was in college, I asked my grandma for her Mole recipe. She's from Mexico and ran a restaurant on the Southside of Chicago in the 50s.

She laughed at my request and carried the secret to her grave. :(

I never understood the whole notion of a secret recipe.
I mean, come on, what's the point, especially after you die?

It's like a secret song, or a secret poem.

It doesn't exist.

Nobody wins.

I wanted to go to Lucifer's today and it looks like it's still under construction. When's it gonna open?

Desert Rose, on Hillhurst and Prospect, looks to be on the cusp of openning.
