TALK: Los Angeles Times columnist Meghan Daum moderates a Zócalo Public Square Lecture tonight on “Baby, I’m Bored: When Did Motherhood Become a Career and Is It a Professional Disaster” with authors Leslie Bennetts and Meg Wolitzer. Bennett’s book The Feminine Mistake suggests that even women who stop working even temporarily sacrifice much more than financial stability. Wolitzer’s fictional book The Ten Year Nap is about four friends who take a decade off to raise children and explores why they haven’t gone back to work. Both women are moms themselves and have first-hand experience of contemporary work culture and motherhood – and the contradictions of “having it all.” The event begins at 7:30 pm at the Hammer Museum. It’s free, but recommendations are recommended.

FILM*: F.W. Murnau’s German expressionist classic Sunrise plays at the Silent Movie Theatre tonight. A farmer is seduced by a wily city woman with questionable virtue—she asks him to kill his wife and run off with her. The Austin, Texas-based instrumental band My Education will perform a score they’ve specifically created for this film, which starts at 8 pm. $13 for nonmembers, $9 for Cinefamily; members.

WINE & JAZZ: Hollywood & Highland continues its 5th Annual Wine, Jazz and Moonlight series tonight with a performance by jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter’s trio at 7 pm (featuring Erik Deutsch on keyboards and Tony Mason on drums. The jazz in the courtyard is free, but the wine and cheese will cost ya. The “donation” will benefit Project Angel Food.

COMEDY: There’s a great three-show lineup tonight at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade. At 8 pm is the free show "Doug Benson's I Love Movies," followed by the $5 standup and sketch show “Comedy Death-Ray” at 8:30 pm. Bringing up the rear is the 10:30 pm free show “See You Next Tuesday” with guests Judd Apatow, Dragon Boy Suede, Jen Kirkman, Mike Schmidt, Jamie Lee and host Matt Besser.

DRINK LECTURE: At 6 pm tonight, Arnie Morton’s of Chicago Steakhouse will be hosting a seminar on bourbon. For $45 per person, a whiskey expert will take attendees on a “fascinating journey from the barrel to the bottle.” And then to your glass. The drinks featured include Knob Creek Mint Julep, Baker’s Washington Apple and Booker’s Manhattan. Cheers, big ears!
