Hot Weather Spells Trouble for Fires

With another spike in temperatures on its way, firefighters may not have as much help as they did this weekend with the cooler weather with its moist air currents. 100+ degree weather will take over starting today in the San Fernando Valley.

Up north in Santa Barbara County near Goleta, The Gap Fire continues to burn on its 6th day. Currently, it is 35% contained and has burned 9,924 acres as of 7:30 a.m. this morning. Last night, many of the evacuation orders were lifted, but with the increased heat, the fires growth potential is considered high.

The fire near Yucaipa in the San Bernardino National Forest is nearly contained and most fire crews have been sent home. The fire, that started Thursday, burned around 300 acres.

Over the holiday weekend in Los Angeles, four small brush fires occurred causing little damage. The biggest scare was in Malibu when a mobile home fire spread to brush near Malibu Creek State Park, which prompted campers to evacuate.
