- Sobering news from our roadways this long holiday weekend, with plenty of DUIs, accidents, and deaths on the books and making news, including the one this morning that claimed 4 lives.
- And three young Southern California men, all aged 21, lost their lives this long weekend in a car accident outside of Anchorage, Alaska. It was a post-party crash that is thought to be attributed to alcohol.
- Looks like some LA Co. Sheriffs chasing a suspect in East LA on Friday may have accidentally fired a shot that hit a bystander in the leg. The woman, who is eight months pregnant, was struck by either a bullet or shrapnel in the thigh while crossing the street in the area where the pursuit was taking place. She was treated at and released from a nearby hospital.
- Juan Manuel Alvarez was found guilty for his part in the 2005 Metrolink derailment that killed several people; tomorrow he will receive his sentence.
- Cookie Johnson, the wife of former Lakers' great Magic Johnson, will appear with her husband in public service ads aimed at urging black women to get tested for HIV.
- A TMZ videographer was walking to his car late last night and witnessed two people getting shot. He turned on his camera and reportedly got the suspects vehicle on tape. Last week, TMZ cameras caught a scene after an alleged drunk driver hit a pedestrian.
- The Gap Fire continues to burn outside of Goleta, which has burned over 9,400-acres and has forced evacuations. Today, officials were optimistic about getting control over this massive fire that began on July 1.
- To the East of Los Angeles, the Ridge Fire near Yucaipa is expected to be fully contained today. "No major injuries, evacuations, or structures burned," reports the Bear Valley News.
