Where are the Best Fireworks in Los Angeles?

The use of fireworks and explosives are prohibited in the City of Los Angeles, but that doesn't stop people. The city estimates illegal fireworks caused a total of over $380,000 in property damages in 2007. Eeek!

However, for most residents, it's all about enjoying the fireworks displays around town. Tonight, there will be about eight fireworks shows from Altadena to the Hollywood Bowl (Go Dodgers!) to Norwalk. On Saturday, shows are in Boyle Heights and Avalon on Catalina Island. Coming in last, Agoura Hills has a Sunday show.

Of course, Friday is the day for fireworks shows with over 40 shows around the region.

So, where do you watch your fireworks? What's the best place?

Redondo Beach Marina, which you can watch from PV, Hermosa, Manhattan and the like.

I'll be in Pedro overlooking the harbour. Definitely Pedro.

I'll be at the second annual roof-top deck party of the lovely Other Melissa in Santa Monica. From her roof, we'll enjoy 4 or so fireworks extravaganza's!

I'm split between staying local at CBS Studios in Studio City or biking to Marina del Rey with Critical Mass

i was going to say redondo beach, but someone already said it. plus you can kick it at the beach all day.

pedro is ok, i've seen them there before, but then you're stuck way out in pedro. you might as well travel to Egypt.

i think the closest fireworks to your house, should be the main qualifier. good luck getting home after the fireworks are over if you live far.

Anyone planning to view the Studio City show from outside the studio lot this year should note that the usual best viewing location - the Moorpark bridge over the Tujunga Wash - is a real mess of a construction zone this year, since the bridge is currently being replaced.

I really love the Moorpark bridge location for the way the BOOMs reverberate up the concrete box channel of the wash, but given the construction, we'll be somewhere else this year.

(And besides, it's our 30th anniversary, so we want to do something a bit more special than just hanging out at the local neighborhood show. Any suggestions for really special 4th would be appreciated.)

The top of Mount Hollywood with a 360 degree view for every firework show in LA country!

My neighbors will be unhappy, but I am going to let you know anyway... Pacific Palisades has the best fireworks. Starts at 9:00 p.m at the local high school on Temescal. Don't mention my name.

First of all, Happy Fourth of July to all our American friends and enjoy your holiday weekend. We had our Canada Day (July 1st) and had an opportunity to enjoy the fireworks already.

anyone know a good spot up in mulholland drive to see the views for hollywood/the beach areas?

I was planning on joining the BIG BANG ride around Venice/Marina Del Rey, which is (I believe) separate from the Critical Mass ride, although they both end at MDR. Not to mention the afternoon BBQ and pool party! [info]

Last year I ended up at the revolving restaurant atop the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown as fireworks shows were revving up all over the city. As we rotated around (we drank enough overpriced cocktails to do two full rotations) we saw show after show after show. It was fun. Of course, I have to say that I almost never celebrate the 4th "properly" (Canadian!) and so I tend to keep my distance from big 4th events. No clue where I'll end up tonight...

Hanging out with my brother in Marina Del Rey. We should be able to walk over to the park and get a good view of the display.

Happy 4th everyone!!

We'll be watching the fireworks from the Wilshire Country Club with our neighbors. We all gather on the streets around the golf course to watch the show.

^try and sneak in! the food is fantastic...my friend invited me in once...the environment is very safe/friendly too.

paradise cove in malibu...you can see some paparazzi get their asses kicked too. it's a win-win.

street fireworks in echo park. three hours worth, five feet over your head.

The Marina Del Rey display was nice. Kind of short, (about 30 minutes), but the finale was pretty good. A huge white chrysanthemum!!
