Art Openings: Human Nature, Mondongo

koopman9.jpgAfter a Friday filled with BBQ, beer & fireworks, spend the weekend checking out a couple art openings around town.

Saturday

Mark Gleason & Caia Koopman begin a group show together at La Luz de Jesus. Though they paint in completely different styles; themes of humanity & nature are prevalent in these works.

Gleason currently teaches art in the Bay area and has shown at galleries across the country. While Koopman’s works have been featured in dozens of print ads for Teen People, Mademoiselle, Surfing Girl and the like. – thru July 27th

In Santa Monica Track 16 Gallery is welcoming the return of Argentine artist collective, Mondongo. Gaslighting explores the human psyche from chaos to creativity. Thread, beads, glitter, and even cookies make up some of the materials used in these works. Formed in 1999, Mondongo are known worldwide, and are included in the collections of several international museums. – thru July 26th

I peeked at the Mondongo install while at Bergamot yesterday. My jaw dropped. The stuff is wild. Where did my deep pockets go?
