4th of July Travel: Bikes, Car or Plane?

With gas prices high (Los Angeles average is currently $4.597 for regular), the Auto Club is predicting less people traveling this holiday season. 3.029 million Southern Californians to be exact, which is about 1% or around 30,000 people less than previous years. The majority (80%) will travel by car the rest by air.

The last time the Fourth of July holiday fell on a weekend it was in 2005 and 61 people died on state freeways," the Daily News explained. "And California Highway Patrol officers arrested 1,600 motorists for driving under the influence - more DUIs than any other holiday weekend that year."

For those staying local, there are plenty of events for everyone, but since gas is so expensive and biking is so fun (especially on LA summer nights), here are two big bike rides happening tomorrow night on the Westside: the Big Bang Bicycle Ride in Mar Vista starts at 8 p.m. with the group watching the fireworks at the Marina Del Rey Fireworks Show. Also ending at the same show, but starting an hour earlier is Critical Mass Santa Monica.
