I was just at One Gateway, Metro headquarters, there was an unattended Metro utility truck sitting outside the front door of the building. About 10 feet away sat a Metro employee, wearing the safety vest, eating lunch. I asked if it was his vehicle, he said no. I waited, another Metro employee came out of the building and approached the truck. I asked him if he would be so kind as to turn off the truck when not in use. "Miguel" responded that "Look around, everybody's doing it, it doesn't matter." I pointed out that Metro's internal policy (rule 2.15) prohibits idling on layover so there's not much to debate. Simply turn of the engine when not in use. It's public money going to waste, the Agencies are already adjusting their budgets because of rising fuel costs and they will next ask for money. They have an obligation to manage that which they already have. They aren't. This is offensive. I then emailed Roger Snoble, the CEO of the Metro, at snobler@metro.net and let him know about the wasted fuel and polluted air.

seriously, we get it, idling engines waste fuel and cause pollution. if you're that concerned about it maybe you should try contacting representatives of metro, chp, lapd, or various council members. seems like that might help a bit more than a daily post about a car that you happened to see idling.

Stephen, almost every article in the past few days that's mentioned idling engines has been written by you. Are you the new Idling Car Sheriff? Telling us all about who's being bad? Please, if you must write something, don't make it all about a damn idling car engine. I'm sure there must be something more interesting going on in this city than a person sitting in their car with the engine idling. Or do you just enjoy pointing your finger and saying, "POLLUTER!!!! GO TO HELL VILE BEING!!!!"? Of all the things to worry about in the world.. car engines. Fuck I'm tired of seeing this.
