Kidnapped Man Rescued by SWAT in Reseda
Yesterday afternoon, LAPD SWAT stormed a house in Reseda believed to be where a 24-year-old man was being held for ransom. The man was rescued with non life-threatening injuries and seven men and one woman were arrested at the home on 18300 block of Schoolcraft Street near Etiwanda Avenue.
It started at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening when the man called his mother saying he had been kidnapped and money was being demanded. The family called police, who worked with the family by secretly coaching "them through negotiations that lasted into Tuesday afternoon," according to the Daily News.
Detectives had a lead on the house where they thought the man was and staked it out. Neighbors said the house's tenants had been a nuisance in the past. Negotiations with the family went sour and the captors threatened to kill the man, something police believed they would do. Minutes after the threat, SWAT stormed the house in a last-ditch effort that was successful.
