Helio Mysto - Summer Time Fun!

Helio_523.jpg

Anyone under the age of 35 these days has a tendency to switch phones, well, as soon as the newest, coolest gadget comes out - which these days can be every couple of months or so. It appears that the slider Helio Mysto is one gadget you might want to keep around for a while.

Consider the fact that this thing has GPS with turn by turn voiced navigation to help guide you while driving or giving directions when you're less than sober, Myspace and Facebook on the go (because you can't live without either of them for a moment), and a screen large enough to get anyone yelled at when it lights up in a dark movie theater.

The WHERE app gives the user location-based widgets located right on the screen, helping to find the least outrageously expensive gas, that new restaurant in Hollywood or that bar where your roommate saw Ryan Gosling hanging out. And while you're there, take and upload pics directly into your YouTube and Flickr accounts (and then subsequently sell them to the highest celebrity mag bidder).

You know what, in addition to all that, it's just kind of pretty. So there. Form and function. The Mysto is quite possibly a must have for the summer. Even if you do get the new iPhone.

I would be wary of buying any phone from Helio at the moment. They are closing all their retail stores, and Virgin Mobile is in the process of buying Helio from SK Telecom and will probably integrate it into their brand. Plans and contract terms may change.

Also - this post feels like straight astroturf to me. If I'm wrong, tell me.

This is relevant to LA how exactly?

The first time I ever came to Los Angeles (last year) - I could not believe that almost everyone had one of these phones. They weren't popular in Florida when I lived there and I didn't see a single person with one when I went to visit family in Missouri.

I thought for sure Helio must have been giving them out for free.

one of the companies that co-owns Helio is owned by a scientologist, so maybe they passed it out at the meetings ;-)

Is this an advertisement?

LAist, a blog about Los Angeles and cell phones.

What does having every app possible mean when the customer service is terrible and the company is sketchy at best. After my experience with Helio my best rec is stay the hell away.

I have Helio and it sucks. Don't buy into this blatant product placement advertisement. I was really hoping they'd go under so I wouldn't be charged $200 to cancel.

I agree with field...what the hell is this? An advertisement?????? Like there's nothing else happening in LA?

haha

uh...Helio is no more...so this post is totally irrelevant ;)
