From the Northeast Valley to Northeast Los Angeles, actions against gangs by the city and feds is beefing up. This morning, a federal indictment was initiated and hundreds of gang members from the Drew Estara Click of the Avenues Gang were arrested (If you remember the big shootout in February, these are the guys). Starting at 4 a.m., police and federal officials swept down into Glassell Park and surrounding neighborhoods after a 10-month investigation to serve the warrants for drug trafficking, murder, hate crime and other accusations.

"I commend all of those who worked to secure these warrants and all of those who served them this morning," City Councilman Eric Garcetti said in a statement this morning about the operation within his district. "At every level of government, we must continue providing tools and resources to all residents in neighborhoods being torn apart by gang crime," he said citing programs such as after school programs and late evening summer hours for Recreation and Parks facilities.

In the Northeast Valley, a preliminary gang injunction was approved for the San Fers Gang yesterday. "The injunction prohibits 900 members of the San Fer - one of the Valley's oldest and most violent gangs - from meeting in public, possessing graffiti tools such as spray-paint cans, and hanging out at the Sylmar Recreation Center or Sylmar Park," explained the Daily News. The area of the injunction mainly serves Sylmar and the city of San Fernando, but some say the injunction area is too large and covers "relatively safe" areas.
