2,000 residents of L.A. County are expected to take advantage of free HIV testing services as part of HIV Counseling and Testing Week. "Of the more than 53,000 AIDS cases were reported in Los Angeles County as of December 2007, nearly 31,000 of the patients have died, according to the county Department of Public Health's Office of AIDS Programs and Policy," says cbs2.com. The report states that AIDS cases in the county remain clustered around the Hollywood/West Hollywood and Long Beach areas and the rate of increase in reported AIDS cases is rising most quickly among minorities. Nobody should die of AIDS here in America where effective drugs are available (and free for welfare cases in major cities).
Sadly though, the ones who do succumb to the illness are usually people who are not tested and get treatment when needed.
I was shocked to learn of an aquaintance's death a few years ago in Chicago. She was a 40-something single-mother of 3 who didnt get timely, regular medical care, and died leaving her 3 teen-age children alone. It broke my heart. She could've lived many more years if she had been tested sooner or reached out for help.
Today's drugs can bring you back from single-digit T-cels.
Get tested, people...and if you are positive - ask for help. You are not alone.

Today's drugs can bring you back from single-digit T-cels. Don't hide from the news if you are positive. There are plenty of agencies to help you get the expensive (life saving) drugs that you may eventually need - regardless if you can pay.
