Dengue Fever
Part one of two.

On Saturday, Levitt Pavilions Free Music across America presented the inaugural edition of Make Music Pasadena (MySpace), with performances on six main stages and 24 other locations around the city. According to the festival's website, "The purpose of Make Music Pasadena is to encourage the community to find their inner artistic talents, and to unite them with new audiences. From professional musicians performing on main stages, to amateur musicians taking to the streets to showcase their talents, to people whistling while they walk, our mission is to encourage the community to Make Music where ever and how ever they can."

The festival coincided with World Music Day and the Summer Solstice -- the longest day of the year -- which in conjunction with the 100+ degree heat, made conditions nearly unbearable for much of the day, especially outside of the shade. But that didn't deter the fans from having a good time in the blazing sun, nor the performers, whose instruments repeatedly went out-of-tune due to the extreme temperatures.

The artists on the Music From Around the World Stage in the Playhouse District included Pasadena Scots, Faro (MySpace), Jessica Fichot (MySpace), Bostich + Fussible (MySpace) from the Nortec Collective (MySpace), Dengue Fever (MySpace), and Afrobeat Down (MySpace).

Levitt Pavilion Pasadena has brought music to the community since 2002, and a similiar location will be opening at MacArthur Park on July 3rd, with the kick-off party this Thursday at the Park Plaza Hotel.

Special thanks to Faro, Jessica Fichot, Bostich + Fussible, Dengue Fever, and Make Music Pasadena.
