Last night at Zune LA, located on Beverly, the eagerly anticipated documentary on Joy Division premiered to an audience that included co-founder and bassist Peter Hook. Hook kicked off the evening DJ'ing to everyone while they were served cocktails and appetizers prior to the film, and generously answered questions after the the film.
The movie was excellent. It told the story of Joy Division and Ian Curtis' life by the people who knew him best, his wife, his lover, his friends and band mates. It had loads of unseen footage to make any Joy Division fan excited. And if anything, you can say that a lot of the rumors and mythology that surrounds Ian Curtis's suicide and relationship with his band-mates is detailed and explained. It only took about 3 decades to get them to talk, no biggie.
Buy it now and see what the big whup is all about. Or if you're a hardcore fan get your hands on the Joy Division Zune.

*SPOILER* - He does, in fact, die.
So, do I lose cred if I state that I never really got into Joy Division? Joy Division, The Jesus & Mary Chain, all the bands the cool kids listened to growing up. I just never got into it.
Cool for the fans that they finally get to have all of these films, though.
