Oh yes, I'm a fan. Was born in Mexico City here (helloooo), and therefore qualified and happy to announce that Malo es muy bueno! The guac, the taquitos, even breakfast there on the weekends, disgustingly delicious. Oh, and on top of it all, great location, cool patrons, a bazillion different tequilas...if you don't "get it", well, you probably never will. But look on the bright side dears: there's always pots of stuff on the westside for ya, so just head west on Sunset until you see all the pretty lights!

I went last night, the bar area was pretty lively. Very very noisy in there though. I tried the The Spicy Cucumber. It was pretty good. I love the pickle and ground beef tacos, but they can be very greasy. Excellent salsas and good soups!

I don't get it...Restaurants that recognize issue areas that decide to make a change and all people can remember is the past. Let it go..I have been and the medicina latina is freaking amazing. No need to drive downtown when I can just drive a lil ways down sunset!!! (Also I am still addicted to the spinach shrimp salad.)Poor 7 Grand. hehe!

I have been a big fan of the Hard Shell Chipotle and Cheddar Potato Tacos at Malo for the past weeks. Before that it was the carne asada and mexican corn on the cobb. And yes the cocktails there have taken a huge turn for the better in the past months.

7G became hostage to Yelp complaints? If that's true, wow.

What's good at Malo? The parmesan tortilla chips.

Well said, Andy. It definitely ain't what it used to be. Word on the street was that weekend thing came about because they were getting too may complaints on Yelp about slow service -- by people who didn't understand that a good cocktail takes some prep time.

Seems like every time I try Seven Grand these days, there's a private party or 3 going on and either given awful service or flat-out shunned entry as I was last Thursday when I wanted to swing thru with a friend from out of town after Artwalk.

A few weeks prior -- on a Saturday night -- I asked for the drink menu and was notified that the bartenders have been asked to not display the specialty drink menu on weekends, presumably to steer customers away from the artisan, handcrafted cocktails to faster-pouring straight or mixed drinks. On the same night, I mentioned to the bouncer that I used to always recognize the doormen at Seven Grand, and he replied that the doormen/bouncers often don't know until *that day* whether they'll be working downtown, in Venice, Santa Monica, or in Hollywood.

For a place that changed the game for bars downtown when it opened, it's really sad to see how it's alienated the locals and regulars AND mixologists who made it what it was.

I wish I didn't have to make counter-suggestions (with explanations) every time a friend recommends meeting at a 213-owned bar. Sadly, it's come to that.

On the other hand, I'm psyched to check Marcos, Patrick, Damian, and Christine at their new digs.
