THEATRE
The Actors’ Gang presents 1984, the George Orwell novel we all had to read in high school. It “tells of a world where people fear that their opinions cannot be expressed freely, where citizens are monitored at the government's discretion, where leaders are not held accountable for their deceptions, and where perpetual war is waged against an unseen enemy.” This production was directed by Tim Robbins and previews tonight (meaning tickets are a little cheaper).

FILM*
Dublab’s getting all boundary crossing on us by tempting our eyes as well as our ears tonight. “A Labrat Matinee V: Daylight” promises a night full of music videos and short films. Plus there’s a performance by TRS-80 and Dublab DJs from 11 pm to midnight. Bonus: free cocktails during intermission.

GEEK DINNER
Attendees of Geek Dinner 26 tonight will be beta testing uWink’s Hollywood & Highland’s location. uWink’s a new restaurant concept where food, technology and games mix. Like you can’t blame the wait staff for an f*ed up order because you input the order at your table and can even self-checkout.

The May earthquake devastated the Sichuan Province in China and put a pallor over the already-tarnished Olympic Games in Beijing. “Instead of marking the unblemished emergence of China as a world power, the ongoing human tragedy paints a more complicated portrait of the evolution which has brought China to this point and the changes which may come in the future.” Zócalo hosts speakers Zhu Yanfeng and Liu Jin, deputy governor of the Futian District and deputy director of the Shenzhen Science, Technology, and Information Bureau, respectively; KAZN Radio talk show host Cat Chao, and Linda Bourque and Virginia Li of UCLA School of Public Health. The evening's moderated by former LA City Councilman Michael Woo.
