@a35mmlife:

In previous summers, bike racks have been almost empty.

I think it's got way more to do with the price of gas than the temp.

I work at E! and lock my bike in that rack. Last week someone got their bike stolen from that same rack. I think the next issue at hand is in LA, where gas prices are higher than almost anywhere else in California, employers are going to start to provide employees that bike with ample, secure bike parking.

Who wants to start a group!

i've noticed other bikers on my work commute lately when, before, it was rare that i would see even one.

i'm a fan of the change and will deal with crowded bike racks. :)

That bike is a beach cruiser, which is why it's pink and cutesy with a basket.

Those bikes were the hot item when I lived in Long Beach.

It looks like the rest of the tuff bikes are going to make the pink nerd bikes life hell, huh? Nice...basket ...there

Realistically, gas SHOULD be expensive, and is in most places (the rest of the Western world) I think people are just beginning to realize - this is not going to get better. If the powers that be would just put the dang trolly/streetcars back where they took em out and stop building over the tracks, this would all be no problem. Instead they widen the freeways - Doh.
