SPOKEN WORD
It’s Spoken Word night at the Echo Park Film Center, where artists and writers gather to read a range of work. “Past readings have included critical theory, fiction, drama, poetry, performance, erotica, excerpts from plays, poorly written ad copy promoting consumables, letters to your math teacher and more.” On the schedule tonight are writers/performers: Kim Calder, Darick Chamberlin, Michael Chick, Doug Cordell, Peter Darchuk, Sean Dungan. Chip Godwin, Kara Hamer, Josh Lough, Ron Osborn, Dahlia Schweitzer, Alice Wood and Will Wright.

RIDIN’ RIDIN’ RIDIN’*
The Midnight Ridazz present bike riding around LA like you probably never experienced before. Tonight , they’re asking riders to dress up like a letter and ride around to make words (and friends). The Ridazz promise “half-amazing/half-stupid games for no prizes at all!!!” Now if an offer like that doesn’t get you off your couch and onto your bike, we don’t know what will.

THEATRE
The world premiere of of Ricardo Bracho's "Sissy" bows tonight at the Alexandria Hotel. It’s a coming of age story that takes place on July 19, 1975, with a backdrop of disco and political turmoil Sandinistas in power in Nicaragua. An almost 12-year-old Culver City kid encounters the “dramas of sibling rivalry, teen pregnancy and progressive politics.”

CHOREOGRAPHY AWARDS
Dance Camera West presents the second Choreography Media Honors, an event that honors the craft of choreography in media by performers throughout the world. The 90-minute program will feature outstanding achievements in film, television, commercials and music video. The Directors Guild of America (DGA) will host the gala screening and reception. Special pre-screening VIP meet & greet beforehand for $150.

PERFORMANCE
A melding of artists opens tonight during “A Thousand Words” – an evening of nine short plays that were inspired by the artwork of some of Downtown's leading visual artists. The visual artists/playwright pairs include: Robert Reynolds/Guy Zimmerman,
Emmeric James Konrad/Sharon Yablon and Rick Robinson/Alisha Adams among others. The performances run until June 29.

FILM
Harold Lloyd, one of the masters of the silent comedy, stars in 1921’s Safety Last beginning tonight and through the weekend at the Old Town Music Hall.
