The FN stands for Friday Night; MTV goes back to music

Pussy Cat Dolls getting in position“Music videos are making a comeback on MTV?” one may ask. And the legendary music channel is apparently replying, “Effin’ duh!”

Pete Wentz hosts this new show, FN MTV which stands for “Friday night MTV,” and is one crazy show. Its TRL meets a late night talk show, with an American Idol-style voting aspect. The first taping was last night and despite reports that the production would be taking longer than scheduled, things went smooth as hell.

The point of the show is to showcase videos, and music. Pete Wentz throws to videos, a panel of three "video experts" (including Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes) critiques the video premieres, artists from the premiering videos are there to chat with Pete, the studio audience votes on the videos with text messages, AND bands come in to perform live. All this on some huge bad-ass, circular set, with 3 huge TV screens, enough neon to start your own casino, and stands to the ceiling full of eager fans.

Highlights from the show included Flo Rida’s new video, The Ting Ting’s new video, the Pussy Cat Doll’s new video, Panic at the Disco’s two live songs (Including jamming with Snoop on Gin and Juice) and of course Snoop’s new cowboy-themed video.

You can buy tickets to see the tapings here in Los Angeles, and next week's headline guest is Lil Wayne.

Be sure to check it out, you can catch the 1-hour show Friday nights at 8p.m. on MTV.

after the jump Buzznet's Breesays kindly granted permission of her video clips of Panic at the Disco's performances.

What you prefer TarPitRob? More episodes of the Hills?

The show was good and i enjoy music videos on my music video channel.

I'm happy to see music videos make it back too!

Don't get me wrong, anything is better (including static) than more Hills episodes, I just think that with all the great stuff out there, especially based out of the LA scene, they can do MUCH better than the Gym Class Heroes pretending to be Lester Bangs, the Godawful Pussycat Dolls and a Flo-Rida (?) video.

Whatever happened to the 2 dollar bill concerts, where they would broadcast shows from the likes of the Roots and such?

TarPitRob, there were all kinds of cool videos that i did not mention.

I did not want to entirely spoil the show for those who are excited to see it premiere.

I DO back you on your points. I too would love to see the return of the 2 dollar bill concerts.

But don't call FN MTV a failure before you have ever even seen it. That's not very fair.

It could be that this show just isn't YOUR cup of tea. And even if it isn't, i bet you'll admit that "the kids these dayz will love it"

you know what i mean?

Whatever happened to having some regular music lover talk for 60 seconds about a band and then throw to video like in the early 90's. Just fucking play videos already! They will never learn over at MTV. PETE FUCKING WENTZ?! REALLY?? Bring the VJ back!

I'm with you there Caliking, Pete Wentz? He's not even the talent in his group. He's just the pretty boy(I use the term loosely)for Fall Out Boy. I guess MTV is using him the same way.

um...who has the attention to watch a 3 minute video? not today's kids -- not even me (anymore).
-- how the hell did I ever pay attention in the 80s?
The Internet (click/move at will) has given me ADD, I swear.

caliking01 and johnny, i don't understand you comments. So you aren't pete wentz fans... who cares.

were you kennedy fans? carson daily fans?

Was Downtown Julie Brown really talented?

And I hope you guys realize that you are watching a teenager channel. That doesn't mean that you have to be a teenager, but obviously that's the target audience.

If you were watching MTV in the early 90s' then you don't get it because you're too old.

and someone talking for 60 seconds, then playing a video... THAT'S WHAT THIS SHOW IS.

seriously, you are all judging something you have never seen before. At least have an informed opinion before you begin to hate on the show.

"At least have an informed opinion before you begin to hate on the show."

I hate on MTV. Yes, it's for nothing but teens, but it's destroying them.
