LAX has 8th Runway 'Close Call,' Avoids Plane Crash
A Southwest flight and a Skywest turboprop had a close call runway incursion Sunday morning. Albeit considered minor, it was the eighth such incident since October.
A Sacramento bound Southwest flight crossed over a runway without permission, says the FAA. A Skywest plane coming in from Bakersfield was less than a mile away, preparing to land on the very same strip. A controller told the Skywest to go around the Southwest jet before landing. "Both planes proceeded without further problems," reported the Associated Press.
Improvements to LAX are on there way with a $333 million runway renovation plan called The South Airfield Improvement Project. It's scheduled to be completed in June. Other projects include a stoplight system and more taxiway lighting.

Please note that LAX has had four runway incursions this year not eight (two on the north complex, two on the south). The FAA likes to play games with statistics to make things look much worse than they really are. They are much more interested in increasing runway capacity at LAX and airports across the country than safety.
Ever wonder why the Senate won't confirm GW's new director for the FAA?
