Presidential candidate Barack Obama took a relaxing Sunday bicycle ride with his family to a friend's house and then on a beachside ride. It's sexy that he's sporting a helmet, too (even if some say it was an unflattering choice).
Republican blogger, The Cycling Dude, plans to vote for McCain, but always is on the hunt for a presidential candidate's views on cycling. He found a document about transportation infrastructure on Obama's website states that he "will build upon his efforts in the Senate to ensure that more Metropolitan Planning Organizations create policies to incentivize greater bicycle and pedestrian usage of roads and sidewalks. As president, Obama will work to provide states and local governments with the resources they need to address sprawl and create more livable communities."
As for McCain, nothing mentions bicycles. But the Arizona senator wants to have a gas tax holiday. Most call it a joke. "By touting a gas tax holiday as part of his proposal for economic recovery in Virginia today, Senator McCain proved he was right when he said he doesn't understand the economy as well as he needs to," an Obama spokesperson said (at least both candidates agree on the Olympics going to Chicago). McCain says he knows it won't solve any energy problems, but would help low-income families save some extra cash.
The current average cost of a regular gallon of gas is $4.44 in Los Angeles.

His seat's a bit too low and it looks like his rear tire could use a few extra PSI in that pic, but other than those quibbles that's entirely the awesomest.
Recently I purchased a bike and went on a hunt for a good bicycle helmet. Anyone who has looked at bicycle helmets in the last 100 years know that a fashionable bike helmet simply doesnt exist. They all look equally retarded, and it demonstrates how desperate right wingers are for something to bring down Obama.
i know he probably doesn't have occasion to wear jeans very often, but those are AWFUL! seriously, they look like gap circa 1992. is he trying to relate to tacky midwesterners or what? someone get this man to a barney's, stat!
It's nice to see that he has the custom bicycle built for two extender ... it's a shame whoever he is carrying is out of frame.
I believe he is carrying one or both of his daughters, who the press did a good job respecting their privacy.
And yes, Obama could use some new jeans. He should shop at Express for Men or something.

This photo feels like secret pandering to bike hippies (like myself). This is like the same sort of stuff Bush did when he was running for office towards evangelicals by dropping the right phrases into his speeches.
QED the bicycle vote is all important!
Good point. Next time he should have a hunting rifle strapped to his shoulder to prove that he's actually towing not his daughter, but a deer he killed on an urban hunting spree.
I agree -- first thing I thought of when I saw those jeans was 5th grade... stonewashed... and the braided Gap belt folded over and looped and maybe even fold-cuffing at the hem. YO, I was really cool back then i promise.
Woot Woot... Gobama!
I created Barack Obama Bicycle Spoke Cards for the bike riding community to show their support and to begin a larger dialog amongst supporters about the importance of public transportation projects.
The spoke cards, feature the stencil art of Katrina displaced New Orleans Craft Mafia member Margaret Coble. All moneys cycles (ha!) back into making more spoke cards... i send them to people who just ask for them, so if its the money thats stopping you... don't let it.
Ride on.
Wear sunblock.
