I personally enjoy the tan-men and tomato ramen served at Kin-Chan's. Ramen-ya on Olympic Blvd is also excellent if you're interested in more than the trio of Miso/Shoyu/Shio Chashu ramens.

Best Ramen I remember having in LA is still Foo-Foo-Tei, though.

If you like noodle soups, next time you're close to Chinatown check out Pho 87. Here's a review...

http://sweettooth.typepad.com/mst/2007/02/chinatowns_pho_.html

I can vouch for the excellent, high quality, pho at really reasonable prices.

my sis used to work at Crepes...he wasn't too bad to the regulars.

Asahi>chabuya. chabuya is "healthier" though...

To be honest I don't put much stock in either of those places for Westside noodles. Not with Santouka (or even Ramen-ya) within range. I went to Chabuya a few times but gave up due to inconsistent quality (cold, clumpy noodles on several occassions) and indifferent service. Asahi is just no comment because I haven't gone there for years, although props to the owners for giving us Korean options on the Westside with their other restaurants. I will give a shout out to Kin-chan's, while for sure not technically superior, it's good "lonely guy" ramen where you can watch the owner cooking and sit at the counter alone with a beer reading manga if you're into that.

Meh..maybe I'm just not a cream-puff fan, but I've really never seen what the big deal is about Beard Papa's. For me, I'd say my first choice of dessert in the area would be to go into the little Japanese market (dang--what's it called?? Is it Murakai?) and buy some delicious dark chocolate covered Pocky or some other such treat. : )

I'll throw in Beard Papa as best place for dessert items. Crepes To Go is good, but it's worth it more if your with newbies and tell them all the stories of the crazy crepe nazi (yes, he is a bit of a douche in his own special way).
