Box Office Review: Panda chops Zohan

Large crowds of children propelled Kung Fu Panda to a win at this weekend's box office race ($60M) while legions of morons drove You Don't Mess with the Zohan to a healthy second-place finish ($40M). Hold-overs staked out the rest of the top 10, led by Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($22.8M/$253M). Sex and the City endured an expected and precipitous drop in its second frame ($21.3M/$99.2M) while mediocre horror flick The Strangers finished a distant fifth ($9.2M/$37.6M).

The bottom half of the top 10 was led by the super-powered Iron Man ($7.5M/$288.8M). After that it was the disappointing Prince Caspian ($5.5M/$125.8M), the dismal What Happens in Vegas ($3.4M/$72.2M), the funny Baby Mama ($0.8M/$57.9M) and the dull Made of Honor ($0.7M/$44.6M). In limited release, Mongol had a strong debut ($26,600 per venue). When Did You Last See Your Father? ($5137 per) and The Promotion ($4816) had lackluster bows while Miss Conception ($500) barely made a blip on 3 screens.

"while legions of morons drove You Don't Mess with the Zohan" - lol. You got that right.
