Pencil This In: Friday

Graffiti
Bomb It! A documentary on graffiti art opens today. / Photo by C-Monster via LAist's flickr pool.

FILM*
John Reiss’s graffiti documentary Bomb It! premieres tonight. The film begins chronologically with artists like Cornbread, “King of Walls” in Philly and Taki 183 in NYC and traverses the globe to Spain, France, Germany, South Africa, following the controversial art form.

10:10 pm // Laemmle Sunset 5 // 8000 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles // $7-$10.

THEATRE
Mamafied, is a solo comedy about motherhood: “…Susanna Brisk hilariously chronicles her struggles with pre-partum depression, having two kids less than a year apart and the resulting hormonal havoc. The everyday realities of parenting prove too much for this Jewish Australian Princess, as she tries desperately to appear normal for her kids, slapping on a phony smile and saying “Mommy’s crying because she’s happy.” The show previews tonight.

8:30 pm // Edgemar Center For The Arts // 2437 Main St., Santa Monica // $20.

BRADY THEATRE
Here’s a story of … A Very Brady Musical. Yup, the TV show has been transformed for the stage. Here’s the premise for this Shakespearean epic: The Brady kids overhear their parents having an argument and think they’re headed for divorce, but Mike and Carol are just trying to get their groove on(something they haven’t done in while because, well, they have six kids in the house). The gala reception’s tonight and will be hosted be Christopher Knight a/k/a Peter Brady.

8 am // Theatre West // 3333 Cahuenga Blvd. West, Los Angeles // $60 for gala tickets.

FILM
Harold and Maude is an unusual love story with plenty of humor – and you can finally catch it on the big screen tonight. Harold is a weird young man who spends time hanging out at strangers’ funerals. He’s pushed by his overbearing mom to enter the dating world, and he meets a girl at a funeral. Maude’s full of life, but older than Harold – about 60 years his senior. Can you say mommy issues?

10:15 pm // Bay Theatre // 340 Main St., Seal Beach // $6-$8.

DONUT DAY
June 6 is not only the anniversary of D-Day, it’s also ND Day. National Donut Day. Customers who visit participating Krismy Kreme locations can choose one donut of their choice for free. Mmm. Someone pick me up a chocolate cake glazed.

All day // Particpating Krispy Kreme outlets // Various locations // One free donut per person.

HORSERACING
It’s Friday night summer racing at Hollywood Park tonight. Specials include: $1 beers, sodas and hot dogs. Super Diamond also plays in concert, and it’s free with clubhouse admission (that’s the nice place to sit in the park). First post is at 7:05 pm.

7 // Hollywood Park // 1050 S Prairie Ave., Inglewood // $7 to $20 admission fee.

>> Other events of interest: Erotica L.A. @ the Los Angeles Convention Center and 2008 LA Pride in WeHo run all weekend.
