"As parents, we are ready to fight this. We are ready to have protests and boycotts and do whatever is necessary to ensure adequate funding for our schools and for social services that affect children and their families," states a petition released by a group calling themselves Parents for Full Funding. Ron Kaye, ex-editor of the Daily News, sees this as a movement that's the seed beginnings of civil disobedience that will lead to change... Good changes.

The core issue for tomorrow's protest and press conference is to oppose Gov. Schwarzengegger’s plan to cut $3.8 billion from public education. "Public education and children must not be scapegoated for the current economic crisis," said Hancock Park Elementary School parent Cindy Kaffem.

“Politicians need to give more money to our classrooms, not less," Kaffem continued. "We’re the richest state in the richest country in the world. We don’t have to close the budget gap by holding our children’s future hostage. We don’t need more prisons, we need more schools.”

Parents for Full Funding will also pledge to support teachers in their citywide action scheduled for Friday, June 6, where teachers will stay outside of schools for the first hour of the school day to protest budget cuts. An injunction to stop Friday's protest was denied in court.

Today's protest is at 12:30 p.m. at Roosevelt High School, 456 S. Mathews St., LA 90033.
